Employee Profiles
Bobby Underwood, Warehouse/Distribution Manager, Indianapolis:
Bobby, a second-generation Indiana Oxygen employee, started with the company when he was just 17 years old. He began painting cylinders during summer break of his senior year of high school. In 1975 he joined the Union and began working full time splitting between pumping cylinders, driving trucks, and acting as a dock man. At that time cylinders were manually lifted on and off of the trucks as the first forklift was not used at Indiana Oxygen until 1985. Ten years later he transitioned to the Warehouse full time where he remained for the next 30 years.
In 1991, the corporate office moved from its original home on Delaware street in downtown Indianapolis to its current location on the northwest side of the city. By 1995, Bobby became the senior warehouseman. Twenty years later, in 2015, he transitioned in to a new role as Warehouse/Distribution Manager for all ten branches as well as the ecommerce division.
When he is not working, golf is his number one activity of choice as well as spending time with his family.
Mike Mong, Branch Manager, Muncie:
Mike has been with Indiana Oxygen for 13 years. He started as a route driver and stayed in that position for 2 years. He then began to work inside sales part time on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and continued to drive his original route on Tuesdays and Thursdays for the next year. Mike was then promoted to inside sales full time where he stayed for a few years before again getting promoted to the Branch Manager position. Mike has been through a welding work shop at Ball State, a basic welding processes course with Miller, a sales fundamentals workshop with Miller, filler metal training with Hobart and the Miller Master’s program. “When I got hired in 2003, my goal was to do a great job and try to become a Branch Manager and then one day become a District Manager. I could not think of a better company to work for.”
When Mike is not at work, he enjoys being with family, fishing and most importantly, turkey and deer hunting. He also enjoys spending time with friends and co-workers outside of work playing golf or just hanging out.
